Seven years in the making, Kjaer Weiss launched in 2010 to mad magazine write-ups, thanks in part to its beyond-beautiful packaging (designed by the mastermind behind Comme des Garcons’ chic AF fragrances, Marc Atlan.) It quickly became a cult favourite amongst the models who were often in Kirsten’s makeup chair, celebrities like Emma Watson and makeup artists like Katey Denno. The reason? High performance makeup that could compete with conventional makeup brands—without any irritating toxins.

Having whipped up DIY beauty products using avocado oils and coconut butters with her mother and grandmother as a child, clean beauty was also top of mind. Romanian-born beauty entrepreneur Anastasia Soare fled communism in the late 1980s and moved to Los Angeles—not knowing a word of English—where she launched a beauty empire. She was the first aesthetician to patent the Golden Ratio Eyebrow Shaping Method, which quickly caught the attention of Hollywood elite (Cindy Crawford was her first client ever.) Anastasia was propelled into the spotlight on The Oprah Winfrey Show and later launched her namesake brand with a Beverly Hills flagship salon in 1997, going on to to create the company’s revolutionary product line in 2000. The first to create makeup and stencils especially for eyebrows, her cult classic, DipBrow Pomade is still a stand-out today.
